The KTM X-Bow is the first car to be developed by Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM, in partnership with Kiska Design, Audi, and Dallara. Originally, KTM planned a production of 500 units per year, however, the company has increased production to 1,000 cars a year and has built a new plant near Graz due to high demand.

The Koenigsegg CCX is a mid-engined roadster from Swedish car manufacturer Koenigsegg. The CCX has been engineered to comply with the U.S. regulation and market demands[2] and is a newer design that replaced the Koenigsegg CCR.
CCX is an abbreviation for Competition Coupé X; the X commemorating the 10th anniversary (being the Roman numeral for ten) of the completion and test drive of the first CC vehicle in 1996.
The CCX was first unveiled on February 28, 2006 at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show although its existence was announced earlier. A derivative known as the CCXR is available, the main difference being that CCXR's engine is tuned to run on biofuel. The different fuel and tune allows the CCXR to produce 25% more power than the CCX.

The Civic has been rebadged for international markets with such models as the Honda Ballade and Honda Domani/Acura EL. The Civic platform also served as the basis for the CR-X sport compact, the CR-X del Sol targa convertible, and the CR-V compact SUV.

As of 2006, a total of 16.5 million Civics had been sold worldwide, with 7.3 million of them in the United States. By 2010, Civic has been the top-selling car in Canada for thirteen years. With high gas prices and a weak economy in June 2008, the Civic supplanted the Ford F-Series to become the top-selling vehicle in the United States for that month.

In Japan, production of non-hybrid Civic for domestic market ended in August 2010, production of Civic hybrid for home market ended in December 2010. In recent years, customers shifted to minivans and compact cars like Honda Fit. Honda launched Fit hybrid in October in Japan. However, production of Civic and Civic hybrid for export markets will continue.

Walter Chrysler arrived at the ailing Maxwell-Chalmers company in the early 1920s. He was hired to overhaul the company's troubled operations (after a similar rescue job at the Willys car company). In late 1923 production of the Chalmers automobile was ended.

Following the introduction of the Chrysler, the Maxwell was dropped after its 1925 model year run, although in truth the new line of lower-priced 4-cylinder Chryslers which were then introduced for the 1926 model year were basically Maxwells which had been re-engineered and rebranded. It was during this time period of the early 1920s that Walter Chrysler assumed the presidency of Maxwell, with the company then ultimately incorporated under the Chrysler name.

The 100% electric car is powered by a lithium-ion battery array and has a range of 100 miles (160 km) on a full charge. The 80 kW (110 hp)/280 Nm (210 lbft) electric motor can propel the Leaf up to a highway friendly top speed of over 140 km/h (87 mph), this combined with the range should be more than enough for the overwhelming majority of drivers. With a 480 volt power supply the Leaf can be quick charged to 80% in about 30 minutes, unfortunately most homes don’t feature this relatively high level voltage, so owners will be using the slower 220 or 110 volt recharge (4 hours and 16 hours respectively). The Nissan Leaf is set to cost $25,280 (after a tax credit) which puts it squarely in the Prius market.

The interest already registered in the Leaf has been overwhelming and has sparked concern over lithium-ion battery supply, taking into account the rapidly approaching Chevy Volt release as well as the continued demand from the Prius and laptop/cell phone sales.

Citroen cars

André Citroën built armaments for France during World War I and after the war he had a factory and no product. In 1919, the business started to produce automobiles, beginning with the conventional Type A. The Type A was designed by Jules Salomon, Chief Design Officer from Le Zèbre.

Citroën was a keen marketer—he used the Eiffel Tower as the world's largest advertising sign, as recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. He also sponsored expeditions in Asia (Croisière Jaune) and Africa (Croisière Noire), intended to demonstrate the potential for motor vehicles equipped with the Kégresse track system to cross inhospitable regions. The expeditions conveyed scientists and journalists.

In 1924, Citroën began a business relationship with American engineer Edward G. Budd. From 1899, Budd had worked to develop stainless steel bodies for railroad cars, for the Pullman in particular. Budd went on to manufacture steel bodies for many automakers, Dodge being his first big auto client. At the Paris Motor Show in October 1924, Citroën introduced the Citroën B10, the first all-steel body in Europe.

The cars were initially successful in the marketplace, but soon competitors (who were still using a wooden structure for their bodies), introduced new body designs. Citroën did not redesign the bodies of his cars. Citroëns still sold in large quantities in spite of not changing the body design, but the car's low price was the main selling point and Citroën experienced heavy losses.

In an attempt to remedy the situation, Citroën developed the Traction Avant. The Traction Avant had three revolutionary features: a unitary body with no separate frame, front wheel independent suspension, and front wheel drive. Citroën commissioned Budd to create a prototype, which evolved into the 7 horsepower (CV), 32 hp (24 kW) Traction Avant of 1934.

In 1933, Citroën also introduced the Rosalie, a passenger car with the world’s first commercially available diesel engine, developed with Harry Ricardo.

The Acura MDX, or Honda MDX as known in Japan and Australia (only first generation was imported) , is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automaker Acura since the 2001 model year. The MDX was the first crossover SUV to have third-row seating. It is related to the Honda Pilot. The alphanumeric moniker stands for "Multi-Dimensional luxury". It is built by Honda of Canada Manufacturing Ltd. in Alliston, Ontario, Canada. It was introduced in late 2000 as a 2001 model, replacing the slow-selling U.S.-only body-on-frame SLX, based on the Isuzu Trooper. In Japan, it filled a gap when the Honda Horizon (also based on the Trooper) was discontinued in 1999. In 2003, the Honda MDX went on sale in Japan and Australia. Australian MDXs were all equipped with the 2001–2003 Touring 'Kiwi' style wheels and were all equipped with the Rear-Seat DVD entertainment system. For 2009, Acura created a crossover to slot above the MDX, called the ZDX, and it is a four-door coupe similar in appearance to the BMW X6 and the Honda Crosstour.

Lamborghini Calà, also known as the Italdesign Calà, was a concept car designed for Lamborghini by Italdesign Giugiaro. It was first shown at the 1995 Geneva Motor Show. It was a completely functional prototype that never made it into production.
The Calà was designed to fill Lamborghini's need for a replacement for the Jalpa, which discontinued production in 1988 at the behest of then owners of the company, Chrysler. In 1994 Chrysler sold Lamborghini to Megatech, the Calà design took shape, but when Megatech sold Lamborghini to the Volkswagen Group in 1998, the concept was shelved. The Jalpa replacement would not be found in Lamborghini's lineup until 2003, with the release of the Lamborghini Gallardo.
The Calà was powered by a mid-mounted V10 engine, which produced 400 hp (300 kW), mated to a 6-speed transmission that drove the rear wheels. Top speed was estimated at 181 mph (291 km/h).
The car is featured in the 1997 computer and video game Need for Speed II and Need for Speed II SE.

The Audi R8 (Typ 42) is a sports car with a longitudinally mounted mid-engine, and uses Audi's trademark quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. It was introduced by the German automaker Audi AG in 2006.

The car was exclusively designed, developed, and manufactured by Audi AG's high performance private subsidiary company, quattro GmbH, and is based on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform. The fundamental construction of the R8 is based on the Audi Space Frame, and uses an aluminium monocoque which is built around space frame principles. The car is built by quattro GmbH in a newly renovated factory at Audi's 'aluminium site' at Neckarsulm in Germany.

In 2005, Audi announced that the name of the successful Audi R8 race car would be used for a new road car in 2007, the Audi R8, based on the Audi Le Mans quattro concept car, appearing at the 2003 International Geneva Motor Show, and 2003 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The R8 road car was officially launched at the Paris Auto Show on 30 September 2006. There was some confusion with the name, which the car shares with the 24 Hours of Le Mans winning R8 Le Mans Prototype (LMP). 6-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx described the R8 as "the best handling road car today".

The pinnacle of powerful engine tuning is the Brabus S V12 S Biturbo engine. Its displacement is increased to 6233 cc with the help of a custom crankshaft, a larger cylinder bore and forged pistons. The inner workings of the engine are also modified extensively: gas flow in intake and outlet ports of both cylinder heads is optimized, and the engine is fitted with sports camshafts.

This vehicle, known later as the Electric Hummer H3, was then showcased by California State Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at a press conference at the State Capitol in Sacramento as part of a campaign to promote greener vehicles.
The H3 was launched with a 3.5 liter straight-5 cylinder L52 engine that produced 220 hp (160 kW) and 225 ft·lbf (305 N·m) of torque and was mated to a standard five-speed manual transmission or an optional Hydra-Matic 4L60-E four-speed automatic transmission. Gemballa is a tuning company based in Leonberg near Stuttgart, Germany, which was founded by, and named after, Uwe Gemballa in 1981. They provided aftermarket parts mainly for Porsche. In May 2010, the Gemballa factory was seized by German authorities and shut down following the disappearance of Uwe Gemballa. Gemballa CEO Andreas Schwarz and investor Steffen Korbach were able to reopen Gemballa in August 2010.[1]

A 600 hp (450 kW) Gemballa model held the lap record for road cars at the Nürburgring in the late 1990s once, and again in 2001 when Wolfgang Kaufmann lowered it to 7:32,52 min. It was since beaten by a Porsche Carrera GT, by less than a second.

The Mazda6 was the first example of the company's new Stylish, Insightful, and Spirited design philosophy followed by the Mazda2 in December 2002, RX-8 in August 2003, Mazda3 in January 2004, Mazda5 in the summer of 2005, MX-5 in October 2005, and Mazda CX-7 in November 2006. The Mazda6 is the successor of Mazda 626, also known as Mazda Capella and Mazda Cronos. The 2002 Mazda6 is essentially the 4th generation Mazda 626 as the Mazda6 continues on the G-platform, progressing from the GF-platform 626/Capella to the GG-platform Mazda6.

The Mazda6 is currently raced in the SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge GTS class. Mazda finished first in the manufacturer's championship standings.Mazda6 drivers also finished first and second in the Touring Car driver points.
The model lineup consists of a four-door sedan, a five-door liftback and a five-door station wagon, marketed in North America as the "Sport Sedan", "5-Door" and "Sport Wagon", respectively. Power is directed to the front wheels in most markets, although full-time all wheel drive models are available in Japan, Europe and Australia. Not all configurations are available in all areas - for example, the Mazda 6 as released in Australia is available in 2.3L four-cylinder guise only, while the 626 which it replaced was available with a choice of four or six-cylinder engines. Commonly referred to as the "Series II," the XJ line was facelifted in Autumn 1973 for the 1974 model year. The 4.2L I-6 XJ6 (most popular in the United Kingdom) and the 5.3L V12 XJ12 were continued with an addition of a 3.4 L (3442 cc/210 in³) version of the XK engine available from 1975.

The interior received a substantial update, including simplified heating and a/c systems to address criticisms of the complex and not very effective Series I system.

In April 1975 the North American Series II got a slightly revised set of front bumpers which had rubber overriders covering the full length of the bumper with embedded turn signals at each end. In 1978 the North American cars also got the addition of electronic fuel injection in the place of Zenith-Stromberg carburettors.

In May 1977 it was announced that automatic transmission version of the 12 cylinder cars would be fitted with a General Motors three speed THM 400 transmission in place of the British built Borg-Warner units used hitherto.

The 1978 UK model range included the Jaguar XJ 3.4, XJ 4.2, XJ 5.3, Daimler Sovereign 4.2, Double-Six 5.3, Daimler Vanden Plas 4.2, Double-Six Vanden Plas 5.3.

In New Zealand, CKD kits of the Series II were assembled locally by the New Zealand Motor Corporation (NZMC) at their Nelson plant. In the last year of production in New Zealand (1978), a special 'SuperJag' model was produced which featured half leather, half dralon wide pleat seats, vinyl roof, chrome steel wheels and air conditioning as standard. New Zealand produced models featured speedometers in km/h, and the black vinyl mats sown onto the carpets in the front footwells featured the British Leyland 'L' logo.

Though worldwide production of the Series II ended in 1979, a number were produced in Cape Town, South Africa until 1981.

A total of 91,227 Series II models were produced, 14,226 of them with the V12 engine.

The Cadillac division of General Motors introduced the CTS in 2002 for the 2003 model. The CTS is built on the Sigma rear wheel drive platform. One notable feature of the CTS is its manual transmission, as it is the first Cadillac manual since 1988! The CTS replaced the Catera in the Cadillac lineup and soon was nominated for the North American Car of the Year. The 3.2-liter V6 engine was kept in the base model until 2005 when a 2.8-liter dual overhead cam engine replaced the first engine used.

When the CTS first hit the market, it was offered with a 5L40-E automatic transmission or a 5 speed Getrag 260 manual transmission. In 2005, the Getrag 260 manual transmission was replaced with an Aisin AY-6 six-speed manual, which provided a better fit for the CTS.
The interior of the CTS features very little wood trim like many Cadillac vehicles do. The CTS is more of a serious vehicle and isn’t about warm trim features like wood. The instrument panel is very straightforward and easy to use and was last updated for the 2005 model year. While warmness isn’t abundant in the CTS, the vehicle does feature beautiful leather seats that are very comfortable for long days of driving and are of a quality that they will withstand much use. BMW describes the X5 as a Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) rather than an SUV, to emphasize its on-road ability despite its size. Like the Lexus RX 300 and Mercedes M-Class, the X5 heralded the shift from truck-based body-on-frame SUVs to sedan-based crossovers that would come to fruition in the late 2000s.

Until 2009, all X5s were manufactured in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Since July 2009, they are also assembled in Kaliningrad, Russia by Avtotor.

This car was built by Toyota Team Europe. It roars beautifully and can go pretty fast. I like the 1999 livery more than I do the 1998 livery. Both models could be found in Gran Turismo 2, including the road car. Here are as many pictures as I can use to describe this car.
The car has lovely character up front. A set of four small headlights on either side join together to provide the lighting for this car. Small vents under the headlights help feed some extra air into the car. Along the front, you note this F1-like design up front followed by two extra vents near the canopy of the car. With this being a right-hand drive car, the side mirror on the driver's right (from inside the car) is closer to the driver while the left side mirror is above the left-front tire. The areas around the front tires are opened up a bit from up front. Up top on the canopy is the big roof scoop feeding air into the Turbo V6 engine. Huge openings on the sides gives for better ability to cut through the wind. Up top is a wide and narrow hood scoop to feed air into that twin-turbo V6 engine. This car from the sides is gorgeous. Lots of swoopy lines and beautiful curves accentuate the car's design as it cuts through the air during a race. Big side ducts only added to the aggressive stance of this. The rear wing assembly is nothing overaggressive or flamboyant. It does, however, get the job done keeping the back end of this car weighed down. From the back, its elegance and charm is undeniable and graceful.

The Lancer platform was completely changed in 1996, and along with it the Evolution, which had become extremely popular throughout the world. The engine and transaxle was rotated 180° to better balance the weight and eliminate torque steer. There were two versions available, The RS and GSR.

The RS version was produced as a competition car with a limited-slip front differential and a friction type LSD at the rear. It also came with GLX seats and 16" (41 cm) steel wheels as these were items that would be replaced by anyone entering the car into competition events.

The RS also had wind up windows, no air conditioning, and a few extra brace bars to strengthen the chassis, one behind the front grill and the other across the boot floor. The RS also had a factory option of thinner body panels and thinner glass.

The GSR and the RS shared a new twin scroll turbocharger which helped to increase power to 280 PS (276 hp/206 kW) at 6,500 rpm and 260 ft·lbf (352 N·m) of torque at 3,000 rpm. Mitsubishi's new Active Yaw Control appeared as a factory option on the GSR model, which used steering, throttle input sensors and g sensors to computer-hydraulically controlled torque split individually to the rear wheels and as a result the 10,000 Evolution IVs produced all sold quickly.

The Evolution IV can be distinguished by its two large fog lights in the front bumper (option on RS version), and the newly designed tail lights on the rear, which became a standard design to Evolution VI, which would become yet another trademark of the Evolution series.

This new generation was slightly heavier than previous Evos—the GSR in particular due to the added technology systems—but to counter this the car produced even more power—the weight of the RS being 1260 kg (2778 lb) and the GSR being 1345 kg (2965 lb).

B Engineering Edonis
The B Engineering Edonis was built based on the model of Bugatti EB110 SuperSport. It featured a powerful 3.5 L quad-turbo V12 engine with four IHI turbochargers and an engine capacity of 3760 cc. The engine delivered an output power of 670 bhp at 8000 rpm and 542 lb-ft torque. It reached the speed of 62 mph in 3.9 seconds and the top speed is about 227 mph.

The Dauer EB110 was manufactured in two different forms which are the EB110 and Super Sport. Both these cars featured a powerful 3.5 L quad-cam V12 engine with four IHI turbochargers. Introducing a new engine a couple years after a vehicle goes on sale isn't all that unusual. But, only one year after the Ford Flex first came out, there are several updates and upgrades for the 2010 model that make this nearly the equivalent of a mid-cycle refresh -- and this was a strong vehicle to begin with, not one already begging for improvements.

The big news is that there are now two engine options: the 262-horse, 3.5-liter Duratec 35 V-6, last year's only source of power in the Flex, is now the base engine. (Those who buy the SE or front-drive SEL or Limited get the Duratec.) As far as base engines go, this one's no slouch, getting the Flex to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds. Optional motivation is now provided by a 355-horsepower, 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo direct-injection V-6 (essentially the same configuration that's made its way into the Lincoln MKS and MKT). It also offers 350 pound-feet of torque at an impressive 1500 rpm, with a fairly flat torque curve. Ford gave an "about" 7.0-second 0-to-60-mph acceleration time for the Flex with EcoBoost. Shows what 93 extra horses will do.

This engine serves as the premium option, available only with all-wheel drive and it's an option only in the SEL or Limited. This means someone who wants a front-drive Flex can get one for as little as $29,270, but the least expensive Flex with EcoBoost is an AWD SEL, costing $36,890. The EcoBoost sits in the engine lineup where an optional V-8 would've been -- except unlike stepping up to the added power of a V-8 from, say, a V-6, there is no fuel-economy penalty, and it'll run on regular gas. Whether Flex buyers choose the Duratec or EcoBoost, AWD Flexes get 16 mpg city and 22 on the highway. (Front-drive models get 17/24 mpg.)

The Duratec's six-speed automatic remains unchanged, but the version backing the EcoBoost was strengthened to handle the increased torque. Addressing complaints of only having the choice of "D" or "L" with the Duratec, the EcoBoost's transmission comes with paddle shifters accessed through a manual mode on the floor-mounted shifter. Both six-speeds have identical gear ratios.

The new engine is surprisingly smooth and does a fantastic job of getting the crossover up to speed. The EcoBoost achieves this with a feeling of confidence and strength like a V-8, and with very little of the whine or lag you'd typically associate with a turbocharged engine. The paddle shifters came in handy on grades and when passing slower vehicles and is something we hope Flex owners will use. And 93 additional horses more than makes up for the EcoBoost's 4800-pound base curb weight.

Interior Design
Like the exterior, the Nissan GT-R's interior is stylish but highly functional. The cabin is unique, sharing no major components or design features with any other Nissan model. Instruments are large, clear and simple, all directly in front of the driver for maximum legibility.
The circular analog instruments are ringed in chunky bezels and the tachometer is red-lined at 7000rpm and integrates a gearshift position display.
More unusual is a multi-function display, in the center of the dash, that not only gives a detailed log of the driving behavior - speed, g-force, fuel economy etc - but also gives details of the car's mechanical information (turbo boost, water and engine oil pressure, transmission oil, front/rear drive distribution etc) plus steering angles, braking and acceleration pressure, and also optimal gearshift mapping for best fuel economy.

The design of the multi-function display - which also includes the satellite navigation and audio controls - was done in conjunction with Polyphony Digital Inc, designer of the Gran Turismo video game series for Sony PlayStation. In the center of the dashboard, below the multi-function display, is a cluster angled towards the driver.

It contains switches for the air conditioning, audio and set-up switches, used to change the tuning of components including dampers, gear shift and VDC. The center console, which sweeps through the middle of the cabin, contains the red start button, the leather shift lever and parking brake, which aligns with the center armrest when off, functioning as an extended arm rest.

There is a full automatic gear change provision, useful in heavy traffic or when relaxing rather than sporty driving is desired. Seats are especially designed for the Nissan GT-R. They're heavily side bolstered for maximum lateral support and comfort and feature a wide range of adjustments.

The rear seats are more 'occasional' seats than full-size chairs.
The center console sweeps through the middle of the cabin, dividing left and right rear seats. Between the seats there is the provision for optional two BOSE sound system woofers.
The trunk is large (VDA: 315L), also thanks to the run-flat tires which obviate the need for a spare tire.
The seat has three color schemes: black, black with red highlight or gray.

Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) at Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has opted to have its honest drivers honoured on a monthly basis under the slogan “Honesty, the Whole Honesty and Nothing but Honesty” within the context of its strategy to uplift drivers’ satisfaction and provide excellent service.

Mr. Yousef Mohammed Al Ali, Director of Fleet Operations Dep’t at DTC, said that this monthly tribute comes as an initiative from DTC to honour drivers for their honesty and keenness to represent in the best way the DTC and RTA through reporting in various items found in their taxis after dropping off passengers such as official documents, passports, cash, precious jewels, gold, mobile phones, electronic items, etc. The step comes to motivate other drivers to follow their footsteps. The Senior Management of RTA advocates such initiatives and steps taken by DTC to regularly and constantly instill and develop fiducial and moral deterrent through regular meetings, awareness bulletins and monthly incentives to drivers.

He emphasized that DTC has keen interest in fully qualifying and preparing drivers before starting to drive DTC’s vehicles out of its belief that they act as RTA ambassadors. The qualifying process not only includes safe driving and compliance with traffic regulations but also involves DTC paying considerable attention to make drivers take up these qualities such as good manners, integrity and honesty in their daily dealings with passengers. Drivers are like a mirror which in this case clearly reflects the approach that DTC has been sticking to.

Al Ali added: “Honesty is a key pillar of excellence and good performance of drivers. It encourages resident and visiting passengers and tourists to avail the services of Dubai Taxi Corporation and franchise companies operating under its umbrella whose performance is overseen by the Franchising Enforcement Department at Public Transport Agency.

He commended the efforts made by DTC Fleet Drivers Affairs Department to intensify qualifying and training courses which contribute to improving the efficiency of drivers, disseminating awareness and sense of responsibility, and instilling the good values and principles that reflect on the services provided to the public. He affirmed that DTC is keen to honour its honest drivers monthly presenting them with certificates as a token of appreciation for their honesty and acknowledgment of the good work they have done. The token of appreciation is also added to their individual personal files, which would assist in enhancing performance and allowing drivers the opportunity to take part in the taxi drivers performance measuring system recently introduced at DTC with AED 2 million budget allocated as annual rewards. According to this system, distinguished drivers are rewarded every three months in recognition of their distinguished performance and dedication in providing excellent service to customers in addition to other standards governing daily performance, safe driving, honesty and compliance with rules, instructions and regulations set by RTA to the best international criteria followed in this field.

In addition, DTC Resources and Support Department represented by the Marketing and Media Section publishes on a monthly basis leaflets and notice boards containing photos and names of honest drivers for distribution to various DTC departments and sections, particularly drivers’ services centres, accommodation quarters and training auditoriums in order to motivate other drivers to follow suit and hence be keener to exert yet further efforts and perform their duties with honesty, sincerity and diligence.

All of the gadgets and controls are easily within reach for not only the driver, but all passengers as well. There is plenty of storage space inside the car, including plenty of cup-holding space. Other standard features in this car are cruise control, power windows, locks, and doors, Anti Lock Brake System brakes, a pollen filter, and front, side, and curtain airbags (a total of six). The temperature and stereo features are out of this world. Temperature is controlled by a climate control system and the stereo is an unbelievable Bose system. Though this sound system is amazing, there have been complaints in the decrease of quality when listening to the radio. Drivers will be pleased when they sit down in the power seats, complete with memory capability. One thing that could have been improved upon in the interior is the odometer/speedometer area. It was not visually appealing, and the controls were not easy for the driver to manipulate. Many of the features in the car are important because they make the car a wonderful option for a safe vehicle.

Introduction

GMC Acadia - 2007 First Drive: It provides the United States' first glorious glimpse of the sun each day between October and March, it boasts the natural wonder of Cadillac Mountain, and it calls the majestic rocky shores of Maine home. Acadia National Park offers beauty, ruggedness, and countless opportunities for enjoyment. Maybe that's why GMC decided to adorn its first crossover with the Acadia name. GMC pays homage to nature with its own mobile park, one displaying attractive style, capable and versatile utility, and a heritage of durability that brings all that life has to offer available to the active family. Leave it to a truck company to unleash one of the better non-truck crossovers the market has seen recently.
Origins

If the 2007 GMC Acadia looks vaguely familiar, it's because it shares its GM Lambda underpinnings with the recently launched Saturn Outlook and upcoming Buick Enclave. Sales of the General's minivans (Chevrolet Uplander, Saturn Relay, and others) never amounted to much thanks to competition like the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna, so they've been replaced by this new breed of large crossover vehicles. Blending the style of an SUV with the functionality of a minivan, the GMC Acadia and its brethren aim to attract new buyers wanting utility without the minivan's stigma or thirsty reputation of large SUVs.

The 2009 GMC Acadia has a number of awards under its belt like Best in Class Interior Space, Top Safety Pick, Five-Star Crash Test rating, and even Best Crossover Vehicle from Motorweek. With critics raving, it's no wonder that the Acadia is packed with standard and available features. The drive train is powerful, yet fuel efficient and the intro MSRP won't have buyers breaking the bank. However, the up to eight-passenger crossover's low slung exterior design could leave some buyers turned off.

Under the hood, all three trims of the Acadia are fitted with a generous 288 horsepower 3.6L VVT V6. This Variable Valve Timing manages the exhaust intake so that during undemanding driving the crossover can save on fuel. 251 ft-lb of torque is enough to get this model going, but some of the competition, including the Chevrolet Equiunox has it beat. A six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with overdrive is also standard on all three trims. With 17 city MPG and 24 highway MPG, the Acadia surpasses almost all other eight-passenger models on the market.

, buyers can expect a wide array of amenities on the SLT1 trim. Heated side-view mirrors with integrated turn signals are included, and heated, leather-appointed front seating is featured as well. A six-disc in-dash CD changer comes equipped with MP3 compatibility and a 10-speaker premium Bose speaker system. The MP3 compatibility allows drivers to sync their music player with the Acadia's audio system. Tri-zone automatic climate control allows all passengers to be comfortable with their preferred temperature setting, and rear seat audio controls let the other passengers adjust volume and station settings. Buyers can upgrade to a Dual SkyScape Sunroof, touch-screen navigation system, and Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist if desired.

Safety features like StabiliTrak with rollover mitigation and traction control, daytime running lamps, and a theft-deterrent system with engine immobilizer are all included. The theft-deterrent system will automatically disengage the engine in the event of a break-in, which can stop a thief in his tracks. The full OnStar program is also included for one year. Buyers will have to renew their subscription after that time, and a monthly or yearly fee will be assessed.

In general, the 2009 GMC Acadia is a crossover loaded with features. But, those that don't need room for eight passengers will see a significant increase in fuel efficiency and price in a smaller crossover. With an intro MSRP of $31,890, the Acadia is comparable to the competition. But, to get all of the amenities, the SLT2 trim will cost buyers around $39,600.

GMC Acadia – 2007 Review: General Motors’ internal model platform designations read like a college fraternity roster. Epsilon! Zeta! Theta! Lambda, Lambda, Lambda! Delta Tau Chi!

OK, that last one may not be an actual GM platform, but the others are real, and right now a lot is riding on those three Lambdas. They take form as GM’s family of new large crossover utility vehicles: the Saturn Outlook, the Buick Enclave and today’s topic of discussion, the GMC Acadia. Not based on any GM car, the new Lambda platform shares more with cars than with trucks, such as a front-wheel drive orientation, suspension designs and driving feel that all share more with cars than GM’s big body-on-frame trucks.

A few years ago, GM promised a renewed emphasis on quality and technology. It’s a claim that has been made before, but with each new vehicle that comes out, it becomes clear that GM wasn’t blowing smoke. Case in point: Our GMC Acadia SLT-1 test car. During our week with the Acadia, we became impressed with its combination of style, versatility, clever touches and a sense of being very well thought through. There’s very little half baked here, just a quality vehicle at a competitive price from General Motors.

For those domestic doubters out there, go ahead and let that sink in for a moment.

What We Drove
All Acadias come with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with variable valve timing that’s good for 275 horsepower. It’s connected to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. Our mid-level SLT-1 test car included quite a bit of equipment for its $33,960 base price, which included the $735 destination charge. Among the major upgrades over the standard SLE version is leather on the seats, steering wheel and shift knob, power sliding and heated front seats, captain’s chairs in the second row with GM’s new Smart Slide system, and a darn fine Bose audio system.

Optional on our test vehicle were the $1,300 dual Skyscape sunroof, $395 premium paint (a sharp looking burgundy that was probably worth the cost), a $350 power liftgate, a head-up display for $350, XM satellite radio for $199, $150 worth of cargo area audio controls and a $175 115v power outlet nestled in the rear of the center console. All told, our Acadia drove out the door with a price of $36,879, which is right in line with its primary large crossover competitors, such as the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander.

Performance
A 3.6-liter V-6 putting out 275 horsepower should be enough to make the Acadia feel almost spry. The engine is certainly willing, with smooth power delivery and even a good growl as the revs rise; this is GM’s new corporate V-6, and we couldn’t be happier. However, the Acadia weighs in at 4,720 lb. in front-drive form, and as a result acceleration is merely adequate. We’re willing to forgive, and it’s not like the Acadia is blocking traffic or anything. We’re just power mad and like as much as we can get. Just keep in mind that the Acadia is meant for hauling families and their gear, not haulin’ butt. We were more disappointed by the drivetrain’s paltry 15.5 mpg during its time with us. That’s better than the full-size Chevrolet Tahoe we tested a few weeks prior (13.2 mpg), but not by a very wide margin, and far off the EPA’s 18 mpg city rating.

The transmission is mostly a willing partner. Its six speeds usually swap quickly, although we did notice some upshift jerkiness at full throttle and the occasional downshift hesitation. Manual control of the transmission is available through a rocker switch on the shift handle. It works well enough, and given the Acadia’s role as a new-age station wagon, paddle shifters would probably seem out of place, even though some on our staff prefer them.

Introduction

Launched in 2007, the GMC Acadia is the first crossover sport-utility from General Motors’ GMC truck brand. Built on GM’s Lambda architecture, the Acadia is a large crossover that is nearly the size of a GMC Yukon. The Acadia, however, weighs nearly 1000 pounds less than the body-on-frame Yukon. The GMC has three siblings that are also built on the Lambda architecture: the Saturn Outlook, the Buick Enclave, and the soon-to-arrive Chevrolet Traverse. To our eyes, the Acadia is the best-looking of the bunch.

GMC offers only one engine in the Acadia, a 3.6-liter DOHC V-6 with 275 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque. A slick-shifting six-speed automatic is the only transmission available. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional.

The Acadia features three rows of seating and can haul up to eight occupants; optional second-row captain’s chairs take the people count down to seven. The interior is spacious, subjectively more so than that of the and twins. Third-row space is good even for adults and the ingress/egress to the third-row is easy thanks to second-row seats that tumble and fold forward. Unlike many GM vehicles of the past, the Acadia has a handsome interior with rich materials and good build quality. Similarly, the exterior of the Acadia has an expensive and well-executed look that reeks of quality.
